The Southern Colorado IntraRegional Transgendered Society was started in 1996 by LisaJo Laptad and Christina Danielle, with a Pueblo chapter led by Shirley Knight. SCIRT facilitated support groups for transgender people in Colorado Springs and Pueblo.[1:1] The group later became Peak Area Gender Expressions (PAGE) sometime between May 2003 and Februrary 2004. [2]

"I rode my bike out there and, uh, walked in the room. And the first time I ever saw the people that was like myself. First time! Other than, you know, the closest I ever got was going to a drag show, maybe when I was in college, you know? But there is a whole room of- of transgender people. And I was like, “Wow. Wow, where'd these all come from?” (laughs) You know? And- and I thought they, I said, “They look so beautiful, done up the way that they were.” And nobody’s ashamed. And it was a very good experience."
