History
Co-founded in 1971 by Donaciano Martinez through his work with the Community Action Project. [1] The goal of the clinic was to provide free health care, no questions or documents needed.
"We called it the Free Medical Clinic. And it still exists to this day, except it's not called Free Medical Clinic. They had to change the name because of the F word. The F word was very controversial."
The name became a sticking point for grantors when the clinic started to apply for funding in the 1970's. "You've got to get rid of that F word." This led to the name being changed to the Community Health Center. It went by that name until the mid-1990's, when it changed to Peak Vista.
